Information collected
The public catalog does not require an account. The site records limited first-party interaction events such as affiliate-button clicks, searches, and finder-filter usage. Event records contain the page path and action label; the public event endpoint is not designed to collect names, email addresses, search-account identities, or payment details.
Purpose and retention
Interaction data is used to understand which catalog paths are useful, identify broken journeys, and improve book discovery. Records should be retained only as long as they remain necessary for aggregate site analysis and operational troubleshooting.
Amazon and external destinations
Amazon affiliate links are deliberate outbound links. When you follow one, Amazon may receive standard request information and apply its own cookies or account settings under Amazon's privacy terms. Ascendant Reads does not receive your Amazon order details.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is available only after a visitor actively allows optional analytics. It measures page views, traffic sources, searches, finder interactions, and outbound affiliate clicks. Advertising storage, Google signals, and ad-personalization signals are disabled. The site does not deliberately send names, email addresses, payment details, or other directly identifying form data to Google Analytics.
Visitors can reject analytics without losing access to the catalog and can change or withdraw their choice at any time through the “Privacy choices” control.
Website referral reports
With analytics consent, our own reports connect Reddit referral sessions with site actions using random browser and session identifiers. They measure searches, saves, signups, reviews, tier-list exports and outbound Amazon clicks without storing names, email addresses or IP addresses in these records. Records older than 90 days are removed when measurement or reporting next runs. Browser identifiers expire after 90 days and sessions after 30 minutes of inactivity. Withdrawing analytics consent removes the identifiers from your browser and stops this attributed measurement.
Reddit advertising measurement
With your separate advertising consent, Reddit Pixel receives visits to catalog pages, new registrations, and outbound Amazon-link clicks. It can use page URLs, referrers, cookie identifiers, and device/request information to attribute activity to Reddit ads and personalize advertising. We do not provide email addresses or account IDs for advanced matching. Private library and profile routes are excluded from our Reddit tracking. Amazon clicks are measured as clicks, not purchases. You can withdraw advertising consent through “Privacy choices”; the page reloads to unload the pixel. Withdrawal does not delete data already collected by Reddit. Read Reddit’s privacy policy.
Reader accounts and community data
Google sign-in is optional. When you sign in, Ascendant Reads receives your Google account identifier, name, email address, and profile image in order to verify your identity and maintain a secure sign-in session. Your email address is never displayed publicly. Community records use a one-way identifier and the public username you choose.
Reader profiles and shelves are public by default under the chosen public username. Readers can make their profile private immediately from My Library; their email address and Google identity are never public. A private library can still be shared deliberately through a direct invitation link.
If you use community features, the site stores your shelves, favorites, ratings, reviews, reports, and book-request votes. Reviews, ratings, public usernames, and request activity may be visible to other visitors. You can clear your saved library data or delete your Ascendant Reads reader account from your personal library page.
When you publish a tier list, its title, ranked book identifiers, title-overlay preference, and creation time are stored to create a permanent public link. A short one-way fingerprint derived from request information is retained with the list to enforce creation limits; the raw network address is not stored in the tier-list record.
Safety and moderation
Reports and limited timestamps are retained to prevent spam, enforce rate limits, investigate abuse, and support moderation. Accounts may be suspended when they violate the community rules.
